Like all appliances in and around the home, your reticulation system should be maintained to be in the best possible working order. When turning your reticulation system back on after the winter switch off, it’s important to do a few simple checks to identify any issues. Performing repairs and having your reticulation system working effectively and efficiently will not only keep your lawns and gardens healthy, but reduce wasting precious water too.

Read on to learn three ways to identify issues with your reticulation system to have it ready for summer including:

  • Inspect your reticulation controller and reset programmes if required
  • Turn your reticulation on and identify any sprinklers not operating correctly
  • Turn your reticulation on and check the water coverage

Inspect your reticulation controller and reset programmes if required

Your reticulation controller will either be switched off or in sleep mode during winter. Turn your reticulation controller back to operation mode and if battery operated, replace the batteries. Check the programme is still set and if not reset the programme being sure to include all zones and only watering on your allocated watering days.

Turn your reticulation on and identify any sprinklers not operating correctly

The simplest way to check your sprinklers for faults, is closely watching your reticulation when it is operating. Be on the lookout for sprinklers not spraying correctly, not working at all or water pooling in any area. Dirt and debris can build up and accumulate in sprinkler heads over winter causing blockages. Traffic over your lawn or wear and tear can cause sprinkler heads to break.

Watch your reticulation closely when turned on and identify any areas of your lawn or garden that water is not reaching. If needed, adjust the height or angle of sprinkler heads to ensure the best possible coverage.
