The winter sprinkler switch off is a permanent water-efficiency measure that occurs each year from 1st June to 31st August. The initiative has been in place for over a decade now with over 90% of Western Australians showing their support by turning off their reticulation during the winter months.

Is the winter sprinkler switch off mandatory?
The winter sprinkler switch off is mandatory for both households and businesses that use either scheme or bore water and live in Perth, Mandurah or parts of the South West and Great Southern. This includes licensed groundwater users such as local governments, schools, golf courses, government departments, universities, TAFE campuses, major parks, race grounds and businesses that irrigate areas of non-commercial turf, lawn and gardens.
How can I check if my area is included in the winter sprinkler switch off?
To check if your home or business is included in the winter switch off, click the Water Corporation website and simply enter and search your postcode.
Can my home or business be exempt from the winter sprinkler switch off?
There can be exemptions and exceptions to the winter sprinkler switch off. If you are establishing a new lawn or garden, you must apply for a temporary exemption to water between 9am and 6pm, outside your rostered watering days, and during the winter switch off period.
Active sporting locations, such as schools and local government ovals, may be permitted to irrigate during winter due to their frequent use, safety considerations and amenity planting.
These exemptions and exceptions are not always automatic therefore you must register or face the risk of receiving a fine.
